Pictures stretched (vertically).

So, I recently backed up and updated WordPress to the latest version and then updated the theme framework. The backup and the two (of three) updates went smoothly. I say three updates because I have yet to update to the latest version of the BBQ theme – I’m worried the new version will require reformatting my content. I’ll eventually get around to it but right now I’m noticing a problem with my images.
Before the updates, all of my images on the site looked perfect. All were the correct sizes. Now, after the updates, the info boxes images are all stretched vertically as are the thumbnail images in the gallery. Is there something that can be done to correct these glitches?
Thank you,
JayTeaJuanfra Aldasoro November 3, 2013 at 6:00 pmHello JayTea,
Thanks for writing. Yes, this new framework came with the removal of the TimThumb script, that was in charge of handling the image resizing. We’ve written about this a month ago mentioning about the upcoming changes, you can see the post here: http://nicethemes.com/2013/10/upcoming-changes-goodbye-timthumb/
What I would recommend you:
1. Get the latest version of the theme.
2. Regenerate the thumbnails. You can simply get this done by using the “Regenerate thumbnails” plugin.Best,
Juan.Hi Juan,
So, I took your advice and got the latest version of the theme installed and I also acquired and activated the “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugin and went into the Tools section of the Dashboard and I selected “Regenerate Thumbnails” and hit the button to regenerate all thumbnails and it did it’s thing (processing). When it was finished, I took a look at the site and low and behold, the info box images were still stretched out. Does this mean I now need to go into the code and change the dimensions? If so, how should I go about this so that (hopefully) I won’t have to change each image thumbnail size individually? Or, will I have to resize all of my images (and to what size now, I’m unclear) and re-upload them all? Not sure what to do now that the plugin hadn’t made a bit of difference.
Thanks,
JayTeaJuanfra Aldasoro November 14, 2013 at 4:45 pmHi JayTea,
Thanks for writing. I’ve been through your site and the problem is that the photos you’ve uploaded are smaller in dimensions than what they need to be in order to be cropped.
The difference between timthumb and the native WP functions – among others – regarding images, is that the first has the ability to expand the image in the case that is smaller in size. I would suggest you to try and re-upload the images with bigger dimensions, so they look pretty.
Best,
Juan.JayTea November 15, 2013 at 3:08 pmHi Juan,
Thanks again for your speedy responses.
I have another question before I dig into attempting to re-upload the info box photos and everyone of the 50+ photos in the gallery that now has a stretched out thumbnail.
You said “re-upload the images with bigger dimensions”. Can you be a little more specific? Is there a minimum size and a maximum size? What is the sweet spot to aim for in terms of pixel dimensions? I’m one of those people who follows the cookbook when cooking a meal and I measure everything out exactly as suggested. I would think that with something like this, there would be set image sizes to share and I’m sure others would find this information valuable.
Thank you,
JayTeaJuanfra Aldasoro November 16, 2013 at 10:58 amHi JayTea,
Actually you need to re upload those who are looking bad. I only see that the infoboxes images are looking bad in your site. Dimensions are:
500x250px (they are bigger for mobile devices)
Best,
Juan.
