  • Hi,

Is there a way to hide two categories from my menu list page/category list on the left?
    http://www.manneydesign.com/newsitebuild/menus/food/

The ones I need to hide are “catering menu” and “drink packages” – these are category pages in the main menu, but I can’t have them listed here as well.

    thanks!

    Hi Laura,

    Thanks for writing 🙂

Unfortunately that’s not possible. However what you can do in your case, is set up three main “Food Menu” categories. One for food, another one for catering menu and the last one for drink packages. Then you can use the menu category template to separe each one of those.

    Juan.

    Thanks for your reply, Juan.

I’m not understanding what you mean by this. I have catering menu and drink packages set up as categories already. The menu is a page, and food is a sub page. Do you mean i should change this arrangement around?

    Juanfra Aldasoro

    No problem.

I mean that you can do the same as you did with the “Drink” category (http://www.manneydesign.com/newsitebuild/menu-category/drink-2/).

At the moment, the catering menu and drink packages are categories but are child categories of the “Food” category. I mean having those two as categories at the same level as “Food” and then use the “Menu category” template with each one of those like you did with the “Drink” category.

    Best,
    Juan.

I’m confused because “food” isn’t a category, it’s a page with the Menu List template. Its a sub page of “menu”.

I tried to make “catering menu” also a page like “food” with the “menu” template but it added everything to that page. “Drink” I have set up as a category and not a page.

Should “food” be set up as a category?

I’m so sorry I’m confused by this. thank you so much for you quick responses

    Hi Laura,

Thanks for writing 🙂 Yes, actually I was suggesting you to have “Food” as a category. So, that way you’ll be able to separate things with the category template, avoiding the menu template (that when thinking of using food categories at the end, they are the same thing)

    Best,
    Juan.

    Hi Juan,

Sorry I’m still confused by this. Does this mean i have to get rid of the menu page with the categories listed on the side? and it will only be a drop down of food and drink under menu, but menu will not be its own page? My client likes the menu list as it is, just needing the catering/drink package removed. So im just trying to get a clear understanding before i relate this info to them.

is this correct – they can either have catering menu/drink packages listed with the other food items, or they can have no page with a list of food items?

    thanks for your help!

im just thinking about this again … is there anyway that catering menu/drink packages can be pages with their own menu template which is not the same as the food menu template? or does this theme only allow for one master menu?

    Hi Laura,

    I hope you’re doing well.

With BBQ newest version you can choose wether if you want to use the list or grid template for the menu categories. That way you can have different types of menus. From what I can understand about your site, that’s what your looking for. To have different menus, right?

So, what I suggest, is to have your main categories (catering menu/drink packages/food) and then use the menu category template for each one of those instead of having the page with the selected template. Maybe I didn’t get you right regarding what you are trying to do. Do you have a sitemap in mind to share with me so I can think of an accurate solution?

    Best,
    Juan.

    Hi,

yes that is what I did, i made those three categories the main navigation items instead of making them pages. Maybe im not understanding what a “menu category template” is? is that something i choose?

Before I had food as a page, and now it is a category with each food section as a subcategory. Now i have so food sections listed, only the 3 categories like this : http://thepeppercanister.com/?page_id=14

Ideally I would like the menu page to list the food as it did with the list at the side. And i would not like Catering Menu/Drink Packages listed here. They are perfect as they are now like this http://thepeppercanister.com/?menu-category=catering-menu

so is there any way to have the menu page set up as it was with the side nav? just without Catering Menu/Drink Packages?

    Juanfra Aldasoro

    Hi Laura,

Perfect 🙂 – The menu category template is what you see here: http://thepeppercanister.com/?menu-category=catering-menu

In the latest version of this theme, this template – if it has child categories – comes packed with the left floating sidebar. This template is automatically generated, you don’t have to create any page to have it. So, this is what I was suggesting. To use this template for each one of the menus you’ve mentioned before. In order to do it, you need to add these to your WordPress Menu. This would be, going to Appearance > Menus and adding your menu categories to your menu.

    I hope this helps.

Oh I see. . . is there a newer version than 1.0.6? I don’t see the version # on the nicethemes site. just want to make sure before i go through download/replace again.

    Juanfra Aldasoro

    Hi Laura,

Yes – version 1.0.7 is out there – We are working in order to have easier updates and notifications.

    Best,
    Juan.

Juan, I just overwrote the old version with the new one and now as you see here, there is a small subcategory list at the very bottom when you scroll down. do i need to check something else to put this list on the left and not at the very bottom? http://thepeppercanister.com/?menu-category=food

    Juanfra Aldasoro

    Hi Laura,

Several files had been modified in order to have this template working. You need to overwrite all files in the /includes/ directory, plus the file style.css

    Best,
    Juan.
