I would like to change the landing page to the URL below.

I’ve searched extensively online for ways to do this, and they all seem very complex.

I don’t want to make a static page, I simply want the “Announcements” category to show (thereby removing the giant search bar at the top)..

Well, you can use the blog page as the home page and then add a filter in order to display posts from a certain category on the home page.
