Menu Item Editing & Sorting with Multiple Menu Categories

Hi, Juan.
Please consider adding Food Menu item sorting by category – within the BBQ template admin – to make updating multiple menu items for different menus easier.
Here’s the dilemma: I’m working for a client who has 3 separate menus (Restaurant, Food Truck and Catering) – I’ve managed to accomplish this by setting up each of the three menus as a separate Menu Category and then assigning Food Menu items to the appropriate Menu Category.
However, if the client wants to update the Food Truck menu, for example, she must sift through many Food Menu item titles to get to the item she needs to update. Indeed, there is a search box within the Food Menu admin pane but having the ability to sort Food Menu item titles by Menu Category would make the job easier because some item titles are the same from one menu to the next (but the prices, etc., may be different) – but there appears to be no way of discerning which is which without clicking the view or edit links.
Does that make sense?
So for the time being, we will have to just use the Fancy Menu for the restaurant menu and use plain old WordPress pages for the Food Truck and Catering menus.
Maybe I’m missing something here (I hope I am).
Regards,
Scott
P.S. Having visual editing capability in the description pane: Edit Menu Category > Description would be a welcome addition, as well. We’re currently just using HTML, as necessary, in that field but the client will not be able to easily edit their Menu Category Description without breaking our HTML if we do.Juanfra Aldasoro May 2, 2013 at 6:25 pmHi Scott,
Thanks for writing and suggesting this.
If I’m getting you right, you mean to have a column for “Food Categories” when listing the food items in the backend, right?
Thanks again, we’ll try our best to include these modifications in the upcoming versions.
Juan.wyattlane May 2, 2013 at 7:42 pmThanks, Juan, that’s correct.
On a similar topic here, the ability to assign different menu templates (either grid or list) to each Food Category would be useful as well – because we’re using Food Categories for different types of menus (e.g. Restaurant, Food Truck and Catering menus). In our example, the grid menu is perhaps more suitable for the larger restaurant menu, but the food truck menu is much smaller and the format looks better as a list.
Basically, any enhancements to make the BBQ template more usable for multiple locations with different menus would be a welcome addition to some future release.
Thanks for the consideration.
Best,

Thank you for this amazing feedback.
We’re writing down every single word, and hopefully we’ll be including some of this features soon.
Best,
Juan.
