I have a wordpress website with Paeon theme installed. The content is migrated from the live site freedomfootandankle.com (hosted on another server).

My site is dev.freedomfootandankle.com. Since there is a live site and the domain is hosted somewhere else, you can ONLY access the site by creating an entry into your computer host file.

The images are there. In the media library, in the Staff and Services featured images BUT they’re not just showing when viewed in the front-end.

I understand, I can see that the images are showing up in the live site. I can also see that they´re not showing up on the site you’ve shared with me.

I wanted to ask you if you are using the same theme and WP versions on both sites, and if you are currently running the same stack of plugins on both sites.

Any other information regarding differences between both servers will be deeply appreciated.

The dev site is the exact copy of the live site. Same theme and plugins. I don’t have access to the current live site server.

Regarding the server, what do you need to know?

It’s not only the images that are not displaying BUT the sidebar as well. It is supposed to be copied over but the sidebar in the dev site is not there.

It is quite likely that some of the plugins you are using might be in conflict with being in a site that is not accessible (some plugins require to make remote calls).

Have you tried migrating the exact same site to a live server without the restrictions that you currently have there?

Have you tried deactivating all plugins where you are having the problems right now?

Hello,

The problem is in the built-in theme features like SERVICES, SLIDES and STAFF and not in the plugins. All the entries in those built-in theme features have images and the images are pointing to the correct folder. The images are not broken. The only problem is it will NOT display in the front-end.

I already tried deactivating all plugins but still the problem is there. I have yet to try migrating the same to a subdomain in another domain. Would that do.

BTW, can you clarify this statements?

Hi Reymund,

Thank you for the follow-up.

A site that is only accessible by adding an entry to the hosts file can’t be reached from third-party applications that need to make remote calls to such site. A number of popular plugins do this, like Jetpack for example. Those requests will fail, since the site will be technically offline – they need the domain name of the website to match an IP, but they can’t find the IP. Sometimes these plugins modify the internal functionalities that end up rendering the images, so we asked you to deactivate your plugins to make sure this is not causing the issue.

So now I checked your site again and I found that the theme functionality that resizes the images is not working properly. You can see this yourself by deactivating “WP Resize Cropping” option in Theme Options > Images. Without that option, the images will appear again, but they won’t be properly resized, and some of them won’t fit their correct sizes. So in order to have it working again, I suggest you to check the following items:

1. Make sure the GD library for PHP is installed in your server. If not, you may need to activate it in your web hosting’s panel or ask your provider to install it.
2. Make sure the wp-content/uploads folder have the right writing permissions (755). If this folder cannot be written, the auto-generated images won’t be saved, thus not appearing in the front-end.
3. If possible, we would like to see your PHP error log (it’s a different log from the one you posted early). Some configuration issues may be confirmed by looking at it.
